    Hi!
I am having a problem because my laptop (Dell) is not recognizing my external USB2.0 CD-writer. Any suggestions?
    THanks

Hi and welcome. Do you have other USB devices that work correctly?

What operating system are you running? Does a USB controller and USB hub appear in device manager? Anything in device manager with a red X or yellow exclamation mark?

First, PLEASE post the O/S you're using, it makes a BIG difference in how USB devices are recognized and installed!

    Hi,
I am operating in Windows Me. As for anything eles I know, I am not operating any other USB devices and when plugged in, there is no icon appearing anywhere for the CD-writer. Thanks for any help and let me know if there is more info I can give you!

I believe ME will require you to load drivers to recognize mass storage USB devices. Also, are you running this on a USB 2.0 card in the machine? Are the drivers installed for the USB 2.0 card? Do the USB ports show up in Device Manager before you even look at the CD drive? You need to have the USB hub and ports properly installed before anything good can happen.

I know that everything WAS fine with the driver because the CD burner did work for a few days (long enough to transfer some files) but was not working a couple of days later. I am not sure what has caused the problem. I have not unloaded any programs etc
