Hello there guys.

I'm basically the "new IT guy" in my workplace, the only one, and one of my users is having a problem with a website we use. This is my first job since leaving my studies, so would like to get some good pointers before I go searching for a solution.

The user can login to the website fine, but for some reason loses her connection to the site halfway through placing and/or viewing orders.

*She does not lose connection to any other websites, just the one in question.
*Here internet connection is working as intended all other times, for all other sites.
*I used ping/tracert to said website, both fine.
*This problem only originates from this one machine.

Now;
* Is this a problem my end or the website's?
* Would clearing her IE temp files + Cookies help?
* Would clearing down the users cache, including the DNS Resolver
cache, help?

This is a hard one to track down (well for my limited actual experience!), as it only happens with this site intermittently - all other internet, networking connectivity is fine.

Thank you very much indeed.
Regards

Ok - so after some researching I have a few things I can try out.

1) Ping -t website.com on problematic host computer for a given length of time. Then replicate this on another host and compare results.

2) Clear the DNS resolver Cache, and reduce the TTL value through registry.
- ipconfig /flushdns
- ipconfig /displaydns; use this to view the IP of the website on the host machine, then ping the website to see if they are the same.

3)Logon to the company switch and check the problematic host port.

So, can anyone else add to this small list? Thanks.

Have you tried accessing and placing an order from another computer in your network to the same site? This would narrow it down to the computer of some network issue.

Hello John

Yes I can confirm that the connection problem only occurs from the one host machine.

I have tried resetting the website to defaults - no joy. The funny thing is, I have installed Firefox - just to see if the user gets disconnected, which she does not, but then the specific printing module that the website uses (to print labels) does not support firefox.

Suppose the next step is a total reinstall of IE, then change the Switch port over. When I did the ping -t, one packet (out of 100) timed out.

Any ideas? Thanks

I have totally reinstalled IE, and the user still keeps getting disconnected.

So, the next step would be to connected the user to a different switch port?

Any ideas? Thanks.
