Ok here the problem. at work we have a company laptop that a former employee was issued. before he quit, he hid his login name so it does not automaticaly display when booting up. Ive tried everything i know(without booting from another drive) and searched multiple forums and the only answer i keep getting is "password recovery" when im looking for "login name recovery". the ironic thing is another employee claims to know the password, just not the login name which it is usually the other way around. I attempted to boot in safe mode and use an admin account, but it appears that one does not exist. Is there a way to find the login name without booting from another drive or using a 3rd party program? this is the first time i have faced an issue quite like this. any info or links would help, thank you.
You logged in with the Administer account and looked at the profiles and accounts, and you can't find any evidence of this "hidden" account? That's certainly something I've never heard of before.
actually i could not login at all..period! the fields where login name goes was blank. it did not have the typical drop down arrow to select from different users. I tried to logon as the Admin with no success. I used BartPE and gained access to the drive and did the usual : user net and it listed only 2 accounts; Administrator and Guest. I changed the password to both and attempted to login using the new password..still no success. im trying everything i can to login without re-installing XP pro. anyone have any ideas at this point?
