I use a Dell laptop with Windows xp.

Since I am the only user, why do I have to go thru the user selection process. Why can't I go directly to my desktop?

If I can, how.

You can enable quick logon (or something like that--can't remember at the moment). In control panel, open the "User Accounts" applet. Look around in there and you can turn off the option where you have to select a user.

Automatic logon in Windows XP

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.
3. Clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box, and then click Apply.
4. In the Automatically Log On window, type the password in the Password box, and then retype the password in the Confirm Password box.
5. Click OK to close the Automatically Log On window, and then click OK to close the User Accounts window.

Thanks for the information. I did as suggested, but now I get a window that states, "The systemcould not log you on. etc"

Thanks for the help. I did indeed enter the wrong password.
