Just wondering if it is at all possible to use an xp system to run a game, that specifically says 95/98? I know this sounds like a duh kind of question, but thought maybe there are plugins or new drivers I could use or something to make them compatible.

Yeah I think it's possible, I bought a game for my xp pro, says on the game insert "windows 3.1 or windows 95" pretty old stuff. Anyway, I think that might just be the minimum. Good luck

if you right click on the program and go to its properties menu in windows xp, you'll find a tab that says compatibility. Click on that and you'll see an option to run the program in a compatibility mode for different operating systems (available in a drop down box). I personally haven't tried it but its supposed to work for almost any of the old win95/98 progs. Good luck
