Have partitioned the harddrive on my Vaio notebook (PCG-GRT30CP) and installed Windows XP-SP3 on this. I used OEM software from my other laptop (Lenovo 3000 series) to do the installation. I know, it's WRONG, but there is a very good reason for having to do this.
A few problems have followed, the main one being no sound. Have installed new drivers where indicated by 'Driver Detective', checked threads here at TSG and followed up on 1 of them by running 'MG Everest' diagnostics to find my motherboard (Sony <DMI>), have tried to find drivers for this but without success.
I have checked the BIOS, there is no information on the sound system in there.
I am now at a loss, I have a large amount of info from Everest scan that means very little to me. Can anybody help me through the next steps?
    Many thanks.

http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php Run this program and tell us what your system says about your sound system. Just sounds like you need a driver and I have to tell you Driver Detective isn't always your best choice. Jazz

    Hi Jazz,
Many thanks for your reply. I have downloaded and run aida32 software, the multimedia report is attached.
As you suspected the audio device is SiS 7012, I will now follow the next link that you gave me to obtain the driver, install and see what happens!!!

    Hi Jazz,
A follow up from my earlier message. Have tried to install the SiS 7012 audio driver but receive the error message "-536870397" (without the quotation marks). Is this of any assistance to you?
Grateful for any further advice you are able to provide.
