I can set wallpaper; but it then vanishes for good, with running any other application, such as the browser or email. it sets up OK, then disappears! Any advice? Thanks.

Thanks so much for your post, Dan O!

But, on looking @ the link, it's a very complex eight-step fix requiring registry editing that is fairly difficult, (many multiple edits!) and one single error ( for someone like me, who's never done this before) is dangerous; I could easily wreck my whole system, just to get wallpaper back!

Thank you, but this fix is very complicated for such a simple task, and I will not undertake it at this time.

Thank You. I was hoping there'd be an automated fix...

When does it disappear? When restarting the computer?

If that's it, try Save Settings on Exit.

Save the .reg file to your desktop. Double-click it to merge it to the registry.

    Restart the computer.

If the fix only opens as a text file, right-click it and select Open With > Choose Program... Then, select the Registry Editor.

If the Registry Editor is not in the list, browse to C:\WINDOWS and select regedit.

Thanks, Dan O; No, I am concerned at the complexities of all the registry editing in your nice reply, so no, I still don't have my wallpaper. I was hoping for some kind of automated fix...Thanks anyway, any ideas you have are so much appreciated!

The fix is as automated as it can be. Try it, it's quite simple.

No that's not the problem, Phantom. It disappears whenever any other application, the browser; comes up, then the wallpaper vanishes for good. It can be reset, but then again disappears right away. That's why I didn't try your fix. It's not a boot-up problem, it seems to have nothing to do with start-re-start. Thank you so much.

In Display Properties > Desktop tab > Customize Desktop button > Web tab, have you selected a webpage to display on the Desktop?

    Is "Lock desktop items" selected?
