Have a verbatim external hard drive that I want to hitch up to a compaq laptop. The laptop is operating on the ac adapter for power. operating system is windows xp professional. when I plug in the hard drive the lights on the hard drive just flash, system directory doesn't show the external drive. all else, c floppy drive and d are all there.
