I have Verizon DSL 1.5 MPBS Down and 400 Kbps up(something like that I dont remember exact speeds) with an Actiontec GT704WG wireless gateway.
While I almost always connect with these speeds, I lose connection all of the time, mainly while I'm playing Xbox Live.
Actually, almost always when im playing Xbox Live. Ill connect to a game, then 2 minutes into the game, the router is restarting. Ill wait for it to reboot, then it repeats. It doesnt lose connection nearly as much when I'm just browsing the web.

I have always been please with Verizon's service and reliability until the past couple of months. I have tried everything I know to do, rebooting the gateway, returning gateway to default settings, etc...

what is wrong with my connection?

If the router is restarting it is defective or overheating, its power supply is defective, or you have a problem with your electrical system.

Is the Xbox on a wired or wireless connection?

I dont know if the whole router is restarting or if it just tries to reestablish connection honestly...
the dsl signal light just goes out then it goes through the connection process that it goes through when you turn it on...(power light comes on, network establishes connection, dsl establishes connection)

As TerryNet said, It's probably a defective router, or possibly you are loosing the DSL from Verizon

Well, if the power light goes off, it's probably restarting. I'd say it's a defective router.

the power light never actually it goes out, it does turn red for a second though then the other lights start coming on.

I've had the router for almost a year and a half to two years, not quite sure

And what, according to your user manual, does a red power light indicate?

"if the power light glows red, the gateway has suffered a critical error..."

it stays red for about a second after the reboot, is that considered
    "glow"ing?

    should I be calling Verizon?

Call Verizon if they own the router.

question before i call, I noticed that when you manually turn the router off and on, the light blinks red for a second.
do u think the red blink is normal or should i still call?

The red light probably indicates that it has lost power due to it being turned off.
