I am having very slow computer problem. It takes longer time to get internet connection. Every page loads slowly. Though I am using DSL connection, downloading takes a very long time. I do defragment and clean my harddrive very often but it does not help with the performance.

How long has the problem existed? A new development? Start after downloading/installing something?

I would hold off on reformatting/reinstalling.

A format and fresh install of Windows is a drastic step to take and is usually unnecessary, so ignore post #3.

My guess at this point is a buildup of spyware and junk files and possibly too many programs running in the background.

What version of Windows are you using, what is the processor speed, and how much RAM is installed?

It would help out a lot if you can post a HijackThis log here.
