vgasave disabled. oops!

    a friend of mine called and while he was "helping" out a friend & using his infinite knowledge:p with PC's he disabled the vgasave in devise manager. He has no boot disk or other either. (So no screen, just blackness)
    A lot of people have done this apparently as I have been reading about this after searching on google. I see too many different suggestions to make a recommendation to him so would appreciate someone who knows about this to reply.
    Sure seems like there would be quick fix. He already tried f8/ earlier config to no avail.
