VHS to AVI transcoding issue

    I apologize if I've put this in the incorrect location. If so, please relocate it to the proper location.

    I have a bunch of old VHS tapes of non-copyrighted performances which I'm trying to use to synthesize a multimedia memory book for a family friend.

    I have a VCR connected to my PC through a PCIe TV Tuner/capture card (AverMedia M791), and I can successfully view the video on the system.

    I am using VirtualDub to capture the video. When I start a capture, the system will continue to capture for anywhere from 30 seconds to an hour, and then freeze. It won't crash, it won't bluescreen, it won't generate any error message, just freeze.

    This is a brand new Windows 7 Professional x64 install, fully updated, genuine, all drivers installed. The previous OS installed (1 week ago) also suffered this same issue, and it was Windows 7 Ultimate x86, also legit, all drivers, etc.

    I checked my windows Event Viewer and didn't find any errors.

    I would greatly appreciate any help in beginning to troubleshoot this issue. The capture card has been tested in another box (under Windows XP) with no issue, but the box is older and the video is choppy(not realtime). It being the case that I've just reinstalled windows, I thought that it would be likely a hardware problem but I don't know where to start with that. See below for hardware specs. I have never had the system freeze this way for any reason. System temperatures report normal using aida64.
