trying to download video from a Sony camcorder to a HP Pavilion G4 1104NR laptop using Windows 7. I need to find out what I need to connect and download them. I used the USB cord and get a message saying USB port is not connected. Is there a different way. I heard of I Link is that helpful?

It is a sony handycam DHC model. I think I have a DV input to the camcoder but only have USB ports on the computer.

Also a USB input on the camcoder as well but that does not get recognized by the laptop so I guess that is used some other way.

thats quite a range of models - do you have the numbers at all

you will need a firewire adapter I suspect

cant find the laptop NR spec
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=5128880&sw_lang=

but no firewire and no express card slot - so i dont think you are going to be able to use this laptop

there are USB to firewire - never used and from the forums, i dont think they are very successful

but lets have the exact model of the sony

Why did you hide your e-mail address under the letters "HP"? In any event, it has been removed as we keep all assistance here on the boards.

i have been looking at the user manual and all it talks about is a ilink- cable, which is sonys version of a firewire IE1394 cable
    - but its not going to work on USB and i do not know of anyone who has used the cables sold that say it converts firewire to USB

i also can see a slot on the PC that would allow you tyo use a pcmcia or express card slot

so , sorry i dont think its going to work with that laptop
