My roommate just bought a new video card for his computer. The new video card is a e-Geforce 5500 and the computer is a crappy Compaq prebuilt. The computer is currently running off the onboard video. We plugged the video card in, and it wouldn't read it. It will still boot to the onboard even if the card is plugged in. Am I doing something wrong? We've actually tried two cards (the 5500 and a Radeon 9200) and neither will work. We know both cards actually work correctly as I've plugged them both into my computer and they both work correctly. Also, we've already confirmed that the card is compatible with the mobo.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you looked in BIOS for a place to disable onboard video? What model Compaq?
