When I play video on my computer, most notably on Windows media player, the video comes out dark. So I need to tweak the brightness setting to make it come out appropriately. But when it's an embedded video, where you can't bring up the video settings, I'm S.O.L.

Is there something I need to tweak on my control panel? Or do I have to update my driver's or something?

It depends I tweaked my NVidia based Asus card with dark setting, ans let it to normal for openGL or something likt that (that does the "overlay"). Now video looks brighter.

If you can't do that try tweaking the video codecs configuration (wmv, divx...). You can install ffdshow and apply many settings.
