hello i am new here. my viewsonic VE710b lcd monitor is acting up. when i boot into ubuntu 7.10 the monitor blinks on and off for a minute before it stabilizes. this happens even during the loading of grub which only means that it has nothing to do with the OS. i tried with my other linux OS on another partition and the same thing happens. does this mean that its the end of the road for my trusty friend?!

Hi and welcome. Possibly. Or it means that your video card is on the blink.

Not being familiar with these operating systems, will it stay stable if, say, for example, you just access the bios setup and sit still there?

ummm, possible but if my video card is not working wouldn't that make playing video impossible? after a while the monitor comes back on and everything is running as before.

Do you have a sub woofer near by it, or powered speakers of any type?

And yeah, video could play well for awhile, then stop, as the video card slowly goes out. It could also be overheating, so you might check to see if it has a fan, that it is spinning freely, with no dirt build up around it.
