Do you all ready have some type of home stereo system for playing the vinyl records? If it has a set of "Line Output" jacks, you'll need a suitable patch cable to connect the Line output signals to the Line Input connector on your PC's sound card.

If you run into AC hum problems, you may need to experiment with different power connections for the stereo and PC or add a ground loop isolator to the patch cable.

If you have a cheap sound card or on-board sound controller that does not give you good quality recordings, you may want to consider a sound card upgrade or go all the way with a USB connected external sound controller box. The external box will keep you analog audio signals away from all of the digital electronic noise floating around inside the PC's case.

Get yourself a good safe record cleaner. The more dust and dirt you remove before recording from the LP, the less pops and crackles you'll need to remove in the editing software.
