Hello, I would appreciate some help with problems on my computer.

I'm running windows XP home edition, Acer laptop. It started when I could not find the Connect to link in the start menu. There was no way to see my internet connection (from a wireless router connected to the desktop) or disconnect from it.

NAV would not update definitions. I got a message to reintall from the internet site. Uninstalled it and tried to reinstall using the NAV un/reinstaller, now the windows installer will not work correctly. Tried to reinstall that and no luck.

I disconnected the router so it would not connected online anymore-because I was unsure what was going on there!

I have tried downloading the install programs to a thumb drive on the desktop and moving them to the laptop (so it is not connected to the internet) no luck.

Tried to do a restore 3 times, failed

Deleted some windows updates that had down loaded when it seem to all start happening, nothing fixed. No I can't get it to update.

    Problem list:
Connect to missing in start menu, icon tray, and Network connections folder in Control Panel empty.

NAV not working tried reinstall, failed

Windows installer not working, tried reinstall, failed

    Tried running ewido, failed

Click on My Computer the searching flashlight goes around for about 2 minutes before anything comes up, moving between folders same thing happens

No error messages or blue screens.

Installed AVG Free Edition, 1st try failed. Was finally able to install but now the definitions are out of date.

Spybot scan showed: not sure if all that is bad but it sure sounds like it!
