I have Win 7 and problem started when a popup indicating Windows Security Eseentials dectected a threat, click here to clean.

    Obviously a fake message.

I did a system restore, and after I received a message indicating it didn't restore completely. Though I can able to move around much better, ie: surfing, I presently have Bitdefender Total Security doing a complete scan. Wonder why it didn't catch this threat?

Anyway in the interim, if I try to run MS Word, or try the ESET online Scanner or run Spybot, I receive an error window
Werfault.exe error 0x0012e588 memory could not be written and other errors could not catch all.

Also when trying to unistall a program, on many it returns an error that the program has already been uninstalled.

    Any takers?

Not sure what's happened to this website. In the past I used to get responses, lately response rates are around
20%. I guess too many problems to attend to.

    Anyways...

Did another system restore, and everything appears to run.

Except I have that annoying popup of a false Windows security essentials threat.

If I goof and click on it, I am back to square one.

Bitdefender scan uncovered no threats and a Spybot cleanup did not clear this.

Trying to run Hijack this and got this message:

"for some reason your system denied access to the hosts file. Hijack this may NOT be able to fix this.
If this happens you may need to edit the file yourself. to do this click Run and type
    notepad C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

I have this permanent (fake) Microsoft Security Essentials popup on the screen; "Full Scan Required"

I have tried everything, Kaspersky removal tool. Malwarebytes, Spybot, ESET online scanner and a host of others and in safe mode as well.

Tried to scan Hijackthis, and received error access to host was denied. However here is the log:

    This has me stumped.
