My mom downloaded a file attached to an e-mail sent to her. The file name was all garbled and she did it anyway. *sigh* now there's a DOS box that won't close with the file name being "C:\DOCUME-1\Liz\LOCALS-1\TEMPOR-1\Content.IE5\CR23M5MT\122377-1.COM"

We are unable to open up any other programs (otherwise I'd be posting an HJT log from that PC) or shut down the computer or log her out of her user settings or anything. I'm hesitant to turn the PC off because it might not turn on again. Any suggestions would be nice.

    Thanks.

Close all of your browser windows. Open Windows Explorer. Go to Tools, Folder Options and click on the View tab. Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files". Now click "Apply to all folders" Click "Apply" then "OK".

Navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator (Repeat for all user names)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files".

Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK.

    Empty your recycle bin.
