hi...I have been having heaps of problems with one particular virus/ (spyware?).

It was originally associated with my yahoo email.

When I clicked into an email it would redirect me to another site called "700guard.com" and then quickly to another site called "shopsnation.com". Here it would give me this "error" page with "goole engine search" crap info.

This redirection now happens to most sites I visit...really annoying (!!).. and freezes the site page I'm on as well !!

Please help as I am over it ...log attached, thanks!:(

Download the Trial version of Superantispyware Pro (SAS):
    http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispyware.html?rid=3132

Install it and double-click the icon on your desktop to run it.
    · It will ask if you want to update the program definitions, click Yes.
    · Under Configuration and Preferences, click the Preferences button.
    · Click the Scanning Control tab.
    · Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked:
    o Close browsers before scanning
    o Scan for tracking cookies
o Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
o Please leave the others unchecked.
o Click the Close button to leave the control center screen.
    · On the main screen, under Scan for Harmful Software click Scan your computer.
    · On the left check C:\Fixed Drive.
    · On the right, under Complete Scan, choose Perform Complete Scan.
    · Click Next to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
    · After the scan is complete a summary box will appear. Click OK.
    · Make sure everything in the white box has a check next to it, then click Next.
    · It will quarantine what it found and if it asks if you want to reboot, click Yes.
    · To retrieve the removal information for me please do the following:
o After reboot, double-click the SUPERAntispyware icon on your desktop.
o Click Preferences. Click the Statistics/Logs tab.
o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
o It will open in your default text editor (such as Notepad/Wordpad).
o Please highlight everything in the notepad, then right-click and choose copy.
    · Click close and close again to exit the program.
    · Please paste that information here for me with a new Hijack This log.

Please download Brute Force Uninstaller to your desktop.
    • Right click the BFU folder on your desktop, and choose Extract All
    • Click "Next"
    • In the box to choose where to extract the files to,
    • Click "Browse"
    • Click on the + sign next to "My Computer"
    • Click on "Local Disk ( C: ) or whatever your primary drive is
    • Click "Make New Folder"
    • Type in BFU
    • Click "Next", and Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".
RIGHT-CLICK HERE and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download Alcra PLUS Remover.
Save it in the same folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).

Do not do anything with this yet!

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping F8 until a menu appears. Highlight Safe Mode and hit enter.

Then, please go to Start > My Computer and navigate to the C:\BFU folder.
    • Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe
    • Behind the scriptline to execute field click the folder icon [IMG] and select alcanshorty.bfu
    • Press Execute and let the program do its job. (You ought to see a progress bar if you did this correctly.)
    • Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
    • Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

    Download ComboFix to your Desktop.

    • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
    • When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running as that may cause it to stall

    Thanks again!

Well, I had lots of problems whilst I was following all that to say the least.

First, I could not get into safe mode...finally got there after 20 goes.

Then my real problem started. I could not get past 98% in Brute Uninstaller progress bar...I must've started it about 5 times, sometimes getting stuck at 56% too. Just kept freezing.

Anyhow, I proceeded and download combofix based on the 98% in Brute Uninstaller.

The log from this is below....hope this is ok...otherwise I can redo it but how do I get pass 98% in the progress bar? My new HijackThis log is also included....

    hi
I was hoping it was all good...until it come up again when I went into my yahoo email. No matter which email I click into ..it still comes up without failure.

This is what comes up when it redirects my email page to :to http://www.007guard.com/404/ (also, windows explorer doesnt recognize this 007guard.com site, only says "page not found" in the bottom of screen, even though it comes up in my address browser):
    .............................................................................

    Site Error
The page you requested could not be found.

The URL path in your request doesn't match anything we have available.
Please step through the following points to find and hopefully fix the problem:

If you typed the URL by hand then please make sure that it is exactly as it should be. Also check the capitalization and that you are using forward slashes ( / ).
If this does not help then you may want to try our search engine to look for specific keywords.
If the link you have is very old or you picked it up from a book etc. then it may not exist anymore. In that case please mail the full URL to the site's owner explaining where you got the link and what information you are looking for.

Is your computer infected by spyware programs? Click here.

    .....................................................................................

    all the above comes up....

It's been frustrating not being able to respond to emails; even you I press the back button, this message keeps coming up...

    thanks so much again...

    I've been wondering about this file: C:\Program Files\IE bho\ie-improver.dll

Please go to this site: http://virusscan.jotti.org/

Use the Browse button at Jotti.
Navigate to the file's location on your hard drive and submit it.
Let me know what it says regarding the file.

    1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
    • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
    • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

    2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

    3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
    • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
    • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
    • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
    • Click Done
    • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
    • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
    4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
    • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
    • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
    • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
    • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
    5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.

Rescan with Hijack This, close all browser windows except Hijack This, put a checkmark beside these entries and click fix checked.

    O2 - BHO: IEbho - {77290CF2-49D3-98D3-9D95-72D9D80DCDB5} - C:\Program Files\IE bho\ie-improver.dll

Reboot and post another Hijack This log please.

    Looks better. :)

[IMG] Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

    Ugrading Java:
    • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u3.
    • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
    • Click the "Download" button to the right.
    • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
    • The page will refresh.
    • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
    • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
    • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
    • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
    • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
    • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
    • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

    How are things now?
