Right now I am in safe mode and I am having a huge problem. I have a virus I believe, that won't let me run a scan to find out where it is. It seems about 10 minutes into the scan using both Symantec and AVG, the computer just shuts off. And also, when I turn my computer on in normal mode the explorer won't open and shows an error message (not internet explorer). Further, it also says some type of error with Windows Driver Debug? Well, here's my hijackthis results while in safe mode. If I need to do it while not in safemode let me know and I'll try to. Also, if I look in my C:\windows files, I see a bunch of $$uninstall$$Kbblah blah's all over the place.

$$uninstall$$Kbblah are backup of windows files before the applying KB (knowledge base) updates. You have two antivirus products use one or the other (AVG or Norton AV)

Sorry I mean uninstall one (I suggest AVG) then try. NEVER EVER use two AV products on your system not only because slows down your computer a crawl but also it almost always causes issues with windows like BSOD's.

Hi, Post a brand new HJT log made in normal mode if you can start up that way.

Are you able to connect online with the computer, or are you posting the logs through the use of another?

If you are using Safe Mode with Networking, which allows the use of Internet that will have to do I suppose, but what exactly do you see when you try to start in Normal Mode?

I've merged your two threads into one, we ask that your work in only one for the same problem. I know you did it by mistake, no need to apologize, it happens often.

Hi, Yes I realize that, it's just a matter of keeping current, these things can come back at any time in some cases. Since some time has passed, we need a new log....
Please post a brand new Hijackthis log to check. Do it after this below if you like.

    http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

This is a free fully functional 15 day trial, it will not update detections after the trial period however it still works- you are not obligated to purchase it. You can uninstall it when we are all done.

    Install ewido.
    · During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
    · Launch ewido
    · It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
    · On the left side of the main screen click update
    · Click on Start and let it update.
    · DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.[/b]

    * * * Try uninstalling SpywareCleaner from your Add/Remove Programs list.

Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:

How to get to Safe Mode in XP: (I know you know how, it's just the standard "making sure it's posted bit")

(Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter)

    Run Ewido:
    · Click on scanner
    · Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
    · During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK, you do have to sit through scan, and click OK on each infected item that pops up.
    · When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
    · Save the report to your desktop<<be sure you save the results!
This will take some time to run!
Post that log and a new HiJack log

Okay. Finally I am back here posting. Only took me two days. This computer is running at .00000000000000000001 mph. It starts and takes about 45 minutes to completely start-up, and then after that it will run fine like it is now. Sometimes the computer starts and an error message about the windows explorere pops up and all of my icons go away. Same with another error message with my drivers. Well, I downloaded that program and did a scan in safe mode and found 99 infections. Here is the ewido log:

Please help. This computer has given me nothing but problems since day one. But never a software problem like this. It's a toshiba A70/A75 series laptop that overheates a lot and the sound decides to work when it feels like it. It would be great if I could get help with those problems as well. Thanks.

Hi, We might be able to do something for those other symptoms- overheating notebooks can be dangerous...I've had one burst into flames, an IBM ThinkPad, older...had a bad battery pack, the symptoms: Battery would not charge past 90% or so, I was using A/C, come to find out, they don't stop charging up if the battery goes bad, Got hot then blew up.
Most notebooks can run without the battery pack in while you are using AC power. Find out if your can, and try it that way, it will probably run cooler for you. There may a diagnostic from Toshiba you can run to check the battery or the softwar monitor. I see the Power management showing in the HJT log> look around in your user guide or Toshiba online for help about: Overheating issues, poor performance, power problems, battery management, things like that.

Your log looks good except for one item, apparently there was no entry in Add/Remove Programs for SpwareCleaner? Check now, uninstall if you see it.

If it isn;t there, lets try something to get rid of it:

Download Registrar Lite from here: http://www.resplendence.com/download/reglite.exe

Install it and open it then on the address bar paste this and press go:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Look down the right hand panel for this dodgy entry:

    C:\Program Files\Spyware Cleaner\SpywareCleaner.Exe /boot

Right click it and select delete.

Need new HJT log, possibly the last one!(y)

[TSG is doing some server upgrading so the site may be down at times tonite]

There was no spyware cleaner in there. Is that what is causing this problem? Well, here is another hijack this like you asked.

Hi, I am not sure that the one Registry entry could be causing all that commotion, but it needs fixing....in my other reply yesterday, I had the wrong Registry location to have RegistrarLite look for the entry, it was a really busy time> sorry, it will work this time!

THIS is the new corrected Registry location:

Start RegLite up open the address bar paste this and press go:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Look down the right hand panel for this dodgy entry:

    C:\Program Files\Spyware Cleaner\SpywareCleaner.Exe /boot

Right click it and select delete.

Yes! I found it. You have been so helpful. I don't know if that cured it yet though as I have not restarted my computer. Why did that have to be cleaned when it was a spyware cleaner? Even though I didn't even know it was on there.

Precisely because you didn't know it was on there. More than likely it is a spyware inviter, rather than a spyware cleaner.

Hi, I just don't trust those type of spyware fixers-

FunWebProducts could have brought you that, and some other things, like Smiley Central, Comet Cursors...just a few in that bunch.

Here is a site that has over 200 rogue spyware removers, most of them do little or nothing and some install crap and try to convince you to pay for their services by scaring the heck out of you.

Scroll around there and you will learn all about it!

How is the original problem are you still getting shut down?

Post a new HJT log when you can.
