This is a query about a possible virus--or a possible virus hoax. There is an e-mail message going around which claims that the following file (which appears in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM) is actually a virus, and should be eliminated: Jdbgmgr.exe

I know that most e-mail virus alerts are actually hoaxes, so I wanted to check. Does anyone know whether this is a valid file or a virus? (Or does anyone know how I can find this out?)

    Thanks.

Hello jweintra and welcome to TSG!!

It is a hoax. This particular hoax has been circulating on and off for over a year now. Please do not delete this file. (Do a search in this forum for Jdbgmgr if you would like to see other, more detailed explanation).

    Take care.

It is a hoax, but be careful, the actual email itself has been known to carry the bugbear virus. Also do not click on any removal links within the email. that is a direct link to either the bugbear or klez viruses.

Some of the dear little so & So's who creates viruses have unfortunately started to used virus hoaxes as a method of actually spreading viruses. people think that they know about the hoax, and click on the link to see what happens and BANG you have a problem.

Keep your AV upto date and you shouldn't have a problem
