A few days ago I turned on my computer,to be greeted by a red screen, announcing my computer had been locked for illegal activity and if i did not pay a fine of $100,my computer would stay locked and I would be reported to the police. This was definetely a scam,I phoned avg at a cost $129,they removed it ,it took more than three hours! I was wondering, has anyone else had this problem and how they dealt with it?

Security experts say that there are now more than 16 gangs of sophisticated criminals extorting millions from victims across Europe.
The threat, known as ransomware, recently hit the United States. Some gangs have abandoned previously lucrative schemes, like fake antivirus scams and banking trojans, to focus on ransomware full time.
