in trying to scan a friends comp online at symantec, an error message popped as soon as it began to scan files,in reference to kernel32.dll. what looks to be the culprit has filled his drive completely.does anyone know the virus that loads up the c drive,filling it to capacity?? the next effort is to f disc the drive...any help much appreciated

hi jb.....did symantec finish the scan?
if so what was the name of the virus,as there are quite a few with this same aspect of filling up the drive.
if not,you could try the online scan at housecall.
http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

or download avg antivirus.
www.grisoft.com
and run a full system scan....both avg and housecall should detect and remove the virus.

unfortunately the symantec stopped as soon as it scanned file 11,
didnt even really start,but ill have him try to at housecall,and see if that gets further along. is the avg software free??

yes,avg is totally free,there is a pay for version but the a/v protection is the same.best thing is to download/install and check for updates to be sure of the latest definitions.
if you need any more help...dont hesitate to ask.;)
