On my birthday, of all days, I received an e mail that looked suspecious in Outlook 6. I wanted to delete it but didn't know how to do so without first highlighting the notice. Once highlighted, the messge opens automatically. I puzzled over this and finally decided I might be able to highlight the notice and quickly delete it before any damage was done. Once highlighted Norton anti virus immediately displayed the virus alert window and I used this to dispose of the file. Is there any way to delete a suspecious e mail messaage BEFORE opening (highlighting) it?

I don't personally use OutLook, but I think you can do this to close the preview pane, go to View, click Layout and in the Window Layout Properties window which appears, uncheck "Show preview pane".
With the Preview Pane closed you should be able to safely right click any suspicious email and delete it.
