Hi, i`m a newbie here. I recentlly had some HORRIBLE internet slow speed issue, LOONg story short after much money and multiple people, I did a simple system restore and my speeds were back to FAST!!! However I did this cause I read somewhere on Google ( or this forum ) that after downloading some updates that happens. So NOW, what the hell do I do. Do I allow Vista to Automatically download uptades again?, and risk screwing it all up again, or do I just buy Windows 7? Any input is Appreciated. :)

You'll still have system restore to fall back to. Doesn't hurt to try it again. On a side note you can try downloading service pack 1 and applying it to see if the automatic update problem gets relieved.

You have several options with updates and it is better to have control over the ones you want to download, Go to windows update in control panel and choose (check and let me choose whether to download and install) this way you can look through them and just tick the boxes of the ones that you need, I too have had trouble on vista with downloads but never on xp, you will need most security ones but there are others you will never use it is down to the work you do on your pc, good luck.

Sorry to disagree but the reason they give you choice over this is they know at Microsoft that we do not need all the updates only some are for security, some you will never use any way also some people do not want to upgrade internet explorer for instance some people like six or seven not eight, they may not use live mail and use freeware and so do not need updates for mail,

If you know what you're doing, yes, you can pick and choose. But as a general rule, I advise installing all updates so the user doesn't miss important ones.

It's about 66 degrees Fahrenheit where I'm at, right now. Past week it's been down to 30's at night and almost 80 during the day though. South Florida in the winter is crazy. :D
