Purchased my new computer in December and was informed I could have a free update to Windows Vista as from 30th January. Could you pl;ease tell me how to go about this.

You will probably get it thru the manufacturer. Give them a call. That is how I got my upgrade to Windows 98 many years ago. I am sure it is in the documentation they sent you with the computer. It was when I bought my Gateway.

I believe there maybe a small disadvantage to this. It probably depends on where you live. The computer is supposed to go back to the seller for installation of the Vista OS. You probably have been told that it on "par" If you have xp home, for example, you only get the basic upgrade.

Most stores are advertising that the upgrade will be mailed to qualifying users, most require you to apply to get it. Check with where you bought the system or look into the paperwork that came with it.

I downloaded all my copies of Vista, however now I see my latest MSDN shipment has Vista in a number of languages. :) Maybe I'll install the Japanese one and see how far I get. :D

Companies such as Dell will be providing the upgrade for you. How they go about doing it will depend on the company. All OEM versions will be provided and supported by that same company.

Firstly, not all companies are giving the free upgrade offer. Go to your manufacturer's website and see whether it is available for u or not.
