VLC - I can't find where to select local LAN files

    I didn't think I was this stupid. I don't seem to be able to find a place in VLC where I can select a file on another PC on the LAN.
    Please can someone put me out of my misery and explain the procedure for me.
    And I hope its not Open File !

    Thanks for any pointers.

    VLC is a great piece of software for watchiong .mpg / ,avi / DVD etc - multimedia.
    I use it on Linux but its available for Win XP as well.
    On Win XP its a normal file open and through Network places you can point it to a LAN but on Linux I can't find how to do the equivalent.

    In that case, I suspect it is indeed open file. Many application have a simple open file dialog, and you just keep moving up the tree until you can see the network for browsing.
