    Hi,
I have the opportunity to buy a Voodoo 5 5500 video card on the internet for $89 and the ad says it is just the bulk pack card and does not include a power splitter. What is this power splitter. Do I need to have one to make the card work? I already have V 4 4500 and V 2 3000 cards and they work really great without the so-called power splitter. The card is at http://www.pricewatch.com/1/37/2300-1.htm
Should I go ahead and get the card and worry about a power splitter later?
    Thanks
    John

dont know what the power splitter is but my advice would be dont touch the card with a bargepole

I was a great follower of 3dfx until their demise indeed i have two voodoo 1's 1 voodoo 3 agp lying doing nothing but gather dust

they were great cards but since takeover by stb all driver support has come from private individuals

although some of these drivers have been mercurial in there support for 3dfx this cannot be gaurenteed to continue so buyer beware

oh I forgot to mention my local pcworld is selling voodoo 5500 at £45 I think about $60/70 so the price seems a bit steep

Well, regardless, my favorite games are Descent III and Unreal Tournament which both prefer the Glide support, not offered by any other cards that I know of. I tried using a Asus Geforce 3 card (OpenGL and Direct 3D) with dismal results which made me sick because the card was very expensive. BAH! The games play beautifully with any Voodoo cards. And after all, the ultimate goal for me is the ultimate graphical display in the game. My question is again, is the power splitter something I can cobble together? What does it look like? I have been told that the V5 5500 uses an extra power supply tied into the main power supply.

    thanks esdxc37
I went to the link you gave me and from there I found a closeup picture of the V5 card. The power splitter is just an ordinary adaptor power plug like the ones on hard drives, so I am set up ok. I am going to get the V5 just to have it because it supports Glide 2x and 3x. I admit the Voodoo cards are not as fast as my Asus V8200 GeForce3 Deluxe, but they do play my games best. Speed is not as important here as compatibility. :D
