My internet homepage has been hijacked by a pernicious search engine called Vroom. I'm running Xp and I have installed and run: AVG, Adaware, Spybot, spysubtract and Xp security itself, to no avail! These seem unable to remove it even though I have turned off system restore and indicated that even hidden folders etc should be shown etc etc.. I'm out of ideas. I also have a pop up blocker which doesnt block pop ups from this site even tho i have checked the " allowed pop ups" list in security... any ideas am about to throw pc out of window?

    Choirgirl

forgot to mention i have also used internet tools to change it back to Google also to no avail!

Download but don’t run CWShredder http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html

Print this and boot to safe mode

Open cwshredder.exe then click "Fix" and let it run.

    Fix these with HJT

    View Hidden Files
Open Windows Explorer. Go to Tools, Folder Options and click on the View tab.
Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files".
Now click "Apply to all folders", Click "Apply" then "OK"

    Delete these files
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\siq.dll

    START – RUN – key in %temp% - Edit – Select all – File – Delete
    Empty the recycle bin
Boot and post a new log
