Well I got it through P2P file sharing, so it was kind of my fault, but either way, I need to get rid of it and I'm not sure how. The info I've looked at so far seems to say that it's not too serious, but no matter what, it won't go away. I have both AVG and Norton and Norton is the one that recognized it, and it says it sends it to it's quarantine, but every time I click OK, a new one pops up. As for my HijackThis, it keeps freezing (Not Responding) and not finishing its log.

What I did first was turn of System Restore because I figured that's how it keeps making more of itself. But when that didn't stop it I had to check online. What I have to go on from what I've seen before is the bfu thing where I connect, put in the URL, and execute the command and then reboot. It seemed like it worked right after the reboot, but then the Norton virus just popped up again saying the same thing. Maybe I did something wrong?

Help! Before it messes up my files and gets out of control!

    Hi and welcome to TSG,

    Please do this:

    • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
    • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
    • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
    • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
    • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
    • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
    • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
    • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
    • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Okay, so with the new HJT, it still freezes at the very end of the scan, and you probably can't help me without the log (great, a virus that makes it so I can't get help). But with a last try, maybe you would know why it stops at "023 - NT Services..." at the top. Is that Norton? In that case, since Norton was the only one that really picked it up in the first place, did the trojan hackers somehow screw up Norton? Does this offer any insight into the problem? =/

Never mind about the logs stopping! My brother, who is much better with computers but still doesn't quite understand HJT logs, showed me in CtlAltDlt how to check for processes because 100% of my computer was being used. It was by a program called Filtergate, which is usually exceptional, it blocks pop-ups mainly, and sometimes spyware or harmful sites. I'm not sure why, but apparently it was stopping my HJT as well...Norton isn't popping up that I still have the virus, so I'm posting a log and hopefully everything is fixed :)

Download the trial version of Ewido Anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop. When the trial period expires it becomes freeware with reduced functions but still worth keeping.

    • Once you have downloaded Ewido Anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
    • Once the setup is complete you will need run Ewido and update the definition files.
    • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
    • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine"
    • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close Ewido Anti-spyware, Do NOT run a scan yet. We will do that later in safe mode.

    • Reboot your computer into Safe Mode now. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while Ewido is scanning as it may interfere with the scanning process:
    • Launch Ewido Anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
    • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
    • Ewido will now begin the scanning process. Be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
    • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
    • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
    • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
    • Close Ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode.

Run ActiveScan online virus scan: here

When the scan is finished, save the results from the scan!

Come back here and post a new HijackThis log along with the logs from the Ewido and Panda scans.

So can you tell if I still have the virus? (I guess not, that's why you said to do the scans) Well here they are

The other two, Ewindo and Panda, should be included in attachments, unless I messed up. Btw, I did a Panda scan on just My Computer because it asked me and that's where I figured would be the place it is and the most comprehensive scan. Was that right?

Yes, you're right about scanning My Computer with Panda.

There is nothing showing in your HijackThis log and the other scans only picked up cookies. However, I do see that you are running both AVG and Norton and this is not a good idea as they will conflict with each other and cause problems. You should decide which one you want to keep and uninstall the other.

Where did Norton say it located the file?

Press Alt+Ctrl+Del, and go to the processes tab and termainate the application with over 80% CPU usage. Make sure the program isn't Sytem Idle process.

Here's the weird part. When I look at the Quarantine and Log Viewer it says the Original Location is: C:\Program Files\Norton SystemWorks\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine\Portal

And the virus items were all in back-up items, not quarantined. Not sure if that means anything. My brother kind of said it could be Norton acting stupid, maybe that's what the virus was supposed to do, because while I had it, in Norton SystemWorks under the Norton AntiVirus section, I couldn't access "Scan for Viruses" or "Reports", it would just kind of take me back to the "Status" options.

So I'm pretty sure it's gone, just everything that happened seems strange or unusual. I either got rid of it with the bfu thing (which I don't think so, because I did the execute and rebooted and scanned and I found the virus again) or with a tool I d/led called alcragui, which is apparently made to stop the viruses. After I ran a normal and full system scan, it didn't go away but when I rebooted I never saw the virus again.

Thanks a LOT for all the help! And I hope my problem can help you with any similar problems. The only strange thing now is every time I turn my computer on Filtergate is taking up 100% of the CPU and needs to be ended. It might've been since I got Ewido, perhaps they are conflicting...who knows.

Wait...System Idle...yes that's it right now. It's taking 80-100% of usage. What does that mean? :O

System Idle process should be high when you're not using much of the resources by running applications.

Norton could be in conflict with AVG as I said. We could run another scan to dig a little deeper if you like to see if anything is lurking.

    Download WinPFind
    • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
    • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
    • Don’t do anything with it yet!

Click here for info on how to boot to safe mode if you don't already know how.

    Reboot into Safe Mode.

    Double click WinPFind.exe
    • Click "Start Scan"
    • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient and let it complete.

    Reboot back to Normal Mode!

    • Go to the WinPFind folder
    • Locate WinPFind.txt
    • Copy and paste WinPFind.txt in your next post here please.

    Nothing there.

Run Kaspersky online virus scan here.

After the updates have downloaded, click on the "Scan Settings" button.
Choose the "Extended database" for the scan.
Under "Please select a target to scan", click "My Computer".
When the scan is finished, Save the results from the scan!

Okay, so my brother, a mysterious guy who doesn't help when I want him to but helps when I don't ask...says that apparently the virus popped up again today even though I haven't seen it for about a day. Saying again that it was a problem with Norton, he "went to the source" and where the virus files were he deleted them all. And the reason why is because I think Norton stopped picking them up and Kaspersky found about 1900 viruses? or so, I left it on during the night to scan and then everyone messed with it =/

So now it's scanning again, should be done in like half an hour. I was thinking there was no need for all these scans and spyware things, but there obviously is, thanks lol
