Hi Everyone,

I use Eudora for email and when I check mail Norton detects the [email protected] virus and posts the following messages.

The 1st alert says Unable to repair file.
The 2nd alert says Access to file denied.

The problem is that Eudora disconnects from the mail server and doesn't download the waiting email messages. When I click check mail it opens the server and goes through the same routine again without downloading the mail. I've run the fix from Norton for this virus and it says I don't have the virus on the computer.

I get the message: Error reading from Network Connection closed by foreign host.

Eudora shows that the amount of email awaiting download is increasing each day, so it must be getting to some point.

Can someone please tell me how I can correct this problem and download mail.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

John

I'm not sure about this, but I understand that Eudora is a mail client on your computer and not webmail. Is that right? And if that is the case, can you log into your ISP and check the mail at the server?

Hi BillC,

Thnaks for the reply. Yes, you're correct, Eudora is a mail client on my computer. I can log into the ISP no worries, but when I check for mail that needs to be downloaded I have the problem I described above. The post was moved from the Email forum to here for some reason.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

John

one of the emails on the server has the virus, so Norton will not allow download

I find eudora too restrictive in these cases, so for the one time use OE to download the mail that is backlogged & delete the mail with the virus, then go back to eudora

Hi Derek,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, that's what I had to do. I used an old computer with no anti virus connected and downloaded the backlog of mail to clear the system. I'm surprised there's not an easier way of overcoming this problem. Maybe/hopefully it was just a glitch that has now corrected itself.

BTW, I must now have the most infected old computer there is. Downloading mail without a virus checker is certainly not a good idea. :)))

Thanks again for your advice Derek.

Regards,

John
