If you are talking about having the Googe search bar appear in the main area of Firefox when you first start Firefox or open a new tab, then in more recent versions of Firefox ...

    1) Select Tools -> Options in the menu bar.

    2) Select "Search" on the left side and make Google the default search engine on the right side.

    3) Select "Home" on the left side and go to the "Firefox Home Content" section on the right side.

    4) Put a check next to "Web Search" and make sure other content is unchecked.

EDIT: Need to add a step.

3.5) Go to the "New Windows and Tabs" section and make sure "Homepage and new windows" and "New tabs" are both set to "Firefox Home"
