What is the make and model of your router ?

You will probably find the manual for it on the maker's web site.

Sorry, I should have known it wouldn't be a universal thing.

My unit is a Lynksys WRTU54G-TM. When I enter Lynksys WRTU54G-TM I get too many hits to know where to go.

Still stumped

your 'ip address' was probably something like 192.168.x.x, correct?

nope. Your ip on the far side of the router is not 192.168.1.1. Hit 'whatismyip.com' and you will get your farside IP addy. The 192.168.x.x is just a default 'home' IP for internal networking. You could ask 1000 homeowners what their internal IP is, and chances are high that 999 will respond with 192.168.x.x.
