    Welcome to TSG.

Could you please be a little more specific about what you mean?

my sounds have been removed. on control panel, sounds, there is nothing for any of my sounds, such as close program, window exit, mail notification, etc. i cannot add any to these because all were erased when i removed real player from my computer.

    Welcome to TSG,

    Try this...

Start->Settings->Control Panel->Sounds. Under the Schemes drop down menu select the option Windows Default, click on Apply, then Ok.

    HTH.

    If the above doesn't help either...this should(would) -

Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs. Click on the Windows Setup tab. Select the checkbox titled Multimedia, click on Apply, then Ok. (If the Multimedia option is already checked...uncheck and recheck it).

Btw, you'll probably need the Windows CD for this.

OK just to verify, you are saying that you went to "find files" and you entered *.*wav and there are no wav files on your computer?

What version of Windows are you using?

Type in *.*wav into the search feature and insert your Win98 CD into your CD drive. Tell the search engine what letter your drive is and press enter.

It will locate 242 different windows wave sounds for you ;)

You can have your own different noises if you want. There's loads to download on the net. Save them to the correct place and allocate them to the individual actions you want.
How about THIS as the windows close down noise.
    :)
