Way to increase download speed?

Alright, I may be totally wrong on this but I figured it was worth asking about just incase...

I have dialup, first of all, meaning im connected at 53kps usually.

However, when I download things, like via download managers or torrents or something, it is very rare for me to get a better speed than 5kps.

So my question is, is there a way to allocate/tweak my bandwith or something to let my download managers/torrent programs use more and thus download faster than 5kps?

Any suggestions are welcome, even if they make only slight improvements (on dialup even 1~2kps diffrence is pretty important =/)

Thanks~

Not quite sure what you mean by "5 kps", but I will assume you mean 5 kB/s

That is actually a very good result on dial-up, and equates to a sustained stransfer of 40 - 50 kb/s. ("b" = bits, "B" = Bytes).

Many people on dial-up would die for those results....

5 kB/s is 5 x 8 x (error correction overheads) giving 40 or 50 kb/s.

You must have a good modem and good copper to the telephone exchange....I know of nothing that can magically push more data through the phone line, you are already well up to the physical limit possible.
