I can't seam to get lavasoftusa.com to load. All the other links here on the forums work. For example DoyceJ has a link to lavasoftusa in is signature box that won't load for me but his other links do work.

I'm running win 98se and IE 6.0. I have cleaned, scanned, and repaired IE 6 but I still can't get lavasoftusa to load.

No, he told me he's got the problem with most links.

http://www.lavasoftusa.net/ does work, by the way.

    John,

There's an issue with IE 6.0 in Windows 98.

    First do this:

To re-register each file and correct any possible missing\corrupt Registry
    entries:

Start - Run (type each line below separately, then press OK)

    regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
    regsvr32 Shell32.dll
    regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
    regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
    regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
    regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

Note: you should see a brief message after each entry.
    Reboot and test IE

Now to come back to my first remark, in some cases concerning Win98/IE 6.0 restoring oleaut32.dll from your Windows CD-ROM through SFC also solved the problem.

I suggest you try that as well: How to extract files in Windows 98 and Windows Me

I hope that link does work for you.

Thanks for the .net link. Changed the bookmark. The .com link
    is down though.

OK tony here's what happened so far.

Most links here on the forums work just fine with the exceptions of lavasoft. Net, Org, or Com. The ms knowlage base artical that you provided in the other forum loaded the page but not the artical.

I followed what you posted and all went well except using regsvr32 for shdocvm.dll and shell32.dll. Please see attachments.

Here's the other attachment. I couldn't get both on the same post.

Shell32 may not be self-registering, so that could be normal, and Shdocvm is a typo.

    Try registering Shdocvw.dll instead.

And if this is only about Lavasoft sites, do this:

Shut down Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.
Go to Control Panel/Internet, and clear your temporary Internet Files.
Click on Settings/show files, and delete all cookies there.
Now go to the Advanced tab, and click Restore Defaults.
Go to the Security tab, and click restore defaults there as well.

Go to Start/Find/files or folders, and search for a file called HOSTS (not HOSTS.SAM which is a sample file).
If you find it, open it and delete all web page entries.

    Good luck,

Sorry Tony it's still not working. The last time I visited lavasoft I downloaded their Refupdater program. It has been working fine untill the last few days and even it can't seam to find the webpage anymore. Do you think it could have something to do with it.

    No, I don't think so.

This is a mystery to me.

    Have you tried repairing IE?

Yes I did a repair. You know I'm not going to lose any sleep over it :D . The Ref update link that you provided in the other forum works enough to give me a download box so I think I'll see what happens when their page comes back up at the .com site.

Thanks for all your help anyway.

    OK it's bugging me now.

I have friends that are using win 98se and ie 6 and they have no problems at all getting lavasoftusa.net web page to open and I can't.

There has got to be a fix out there somewhere. I have even uninstalled ie 6 and went back to ie 5.5 and still I can't get that web page to open.

I'm now back with ie 6 and would really like a little help here.

You might try doing a Find Files search for HOSTS (with no extension). If you find it (not Hosts.sam), rename it GHOSTS and see if you can load the troublesome pages.

Also see if you can access it through a proxy such as...

There was no host files except host.sam.

I was able to get to the site thru the proxy server that you gave me. Now what does that mean?

I would like to get there own my own with out using the proxy site.

    Thanks

    John
