    Hello everyone,
My daughter has a problem with her webcam. She has a 6 month old Sony laptop running Vista with an integrated webcam. Often when we skype each other (she's in France) her webcam doesn't work and a message says its being used by another program which it isn't. We've looked at the video settings etc and think everything is fine. Does anyone know what the problem might be. Thanks

First thing id check is that it definately isnt being used by another program. Is there software on the machine specifically for the webcam?
if there is, it may be running on startup and blocking the webcam from doing anything else.

Id find out if there definately is any other software on the machine first that may be using the webcam and then bring up task manager and end the process to free up the camera.
Then try to use it for your other purposes.
