My computer has recently developed the new trick of just shutting down without warning. When the computer tries to reboot, I get an error message about inserting the system disk. when i shut it off and turn it back on manually it boots just fine. I then get the message that the system has recovered from a serious error and it identifies two files(?) that are involved. Any help or guidance on what is causing this new trick would be appreciated.

    Thanks ahead of time!

Those "files" are simply the data dump that contains (perhaps) the reason for the fault. They are the "log files" of the system.

Try disabling restart on error. That might give a blue screen lockup instead of a reboot, with a visible error code.

Start - Control Panel - System - Advanced - Startup and recovery/Settings - untick "Automatically restart"
