I'm asking this question for my sister who just got a new computer yesterday and now has a worm. The only thing she did on the Net was try and register her Quicken software. Then her Norton anti-virus software told her she had a worm. Now the Internet freezes when she tries to use it.

This is the information she gave me:

    Infected file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\wins\DLLHOST.EXE

    Infected with W32.Welchia.Worm

    Freezes Internet.

Norton virus unable to repair or quarantine it. Norton recommends to delete infected file.

Any advice what she should do? Can she remove this worm herself?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Thanks for the help so far. I will let you know if we were able to solve the problem.

One more question: Which Microsoft security patch should be downloaded.

    Thanks.

The worm is gone and I guess everything else is figured out. Thanks for the help.

I believe the patch is MS03-26. But You still would be prudent to get a firewall.

I'm glad the Symantec site worked for you. :)
