I have a 80 GB external harddrive and I plug it into my computer using a usb cable and my computer finds the hardware and installs the driver and everything worked fine.

I've been out of town for a month or so and now that i get back and plug everything back in my HD will not open.

Everytime I click on the F: drive in My Computer it will open a window and that window will freeze and when I hit control-alt-delete it says Not Responding. I have all my files and programs on this harddrive can anyone help me so I can get it to work again.

I'm using XP Pro any help is appreciated.

I don't have a quick solution for you yet but the last thing you should try is removing the drive from the case and installing it on your computer as an IDE device (slave). You should be able to access your data that way.

After plugging the drive in, go into Device Manager and delete it from the USB section, unplug the drive, reboot and then plug it in again. See if that gets it's mind right.
