Just bought a 24-inch wide-screen monitor for my father-in-law and his video display controller has no drivers for wide-screen proportions for maintaining aspect ratio of the images. In other words, they're stretched.

What resolutions are the right numbers to look for in an appropriate video card?

Alex: My 19" HannsG widescreen uses a 1440x900 resolution. (Native).
    That's a proportion of 1.6.
Quite a few people are having problems with widescreen monitors because they buy the monitor assuming their graphics card will support the native resolution of the monitor, and it won't. Now they're stuck and have to buy a new video card, or at least find new drivers that will support the resolution they need.
Look for a card that supports the native resoloution of your monitor.
