I want to upgrade my laptop's obsolete graphics card. One problem, it is attached to the motherboard. Is there anything I can do to increase graphics performance when running heavy games and/or applications(without buying a new computer)?

Nope, you have to buy a new laptop or computer. Sorry, that's just the way laptop's work.
