What causes a new hard drive not to detect?

    I formatted and loaded up a new hard drive using an external usb drive holder. I then installed the new drive internally and the drive would not detect. I rebooted, still no detection. Then I disconnected one of the other drives, there were 4 total, and rebooted. Then the new drive detected. What could cause this issue?

    Post the type of drive you are installing ie ide, sata1, sata2, etc.

    OK, when you refer to not detected, are you referring to not being detected in the bios OR do you mean not detected in windows explorer?

    I wonder why you would install the drive into an enclosure to partition/format? Why not just install and use disk management to partition/format?

    I could not get the drive to be detected after the drive was formatted. I then transferred the drive to the usb dock where the drive was detected. After files were uploaded to the new drive, I transferred the drive to internal where the drive was not detected. Then I removed all drives except C and the new drive. Then the drive WAS detected using internal. Then I hooked up the other two drives and all things seem normal now. Could be just a bunch of fluky things. Don't know. Don't have a clue.

    One of your controllers appears to be using IDE, so I would guess that the drive needs jumpering to the correct of Master/Slave

    All the drives are being detected at the moment.

    All the drives are SATA. If all the drives are SATA, what can "One of your controllers appears to be using IDE, so I would guess that the drive needs jumpering to the correct of Master/Slave" mean?
