I have files I would like to edit, the icon is the windows emblem on a doc, when I click on it I get the grey "open with" box. So silly question I know but what do I select to open these with?

oh and if I choose the wrong program to open with how would I correct the error and get the doc back to the form it came in?

Thanks very much

Basically what windows is telling you is that it does not currently have any application that can open/run that particular file type. For example:

I download a file.tar file onto windows 98. A .tar file is like a .zip file only its for unix OS's. Therefore unless i had some sort of compression program that could open a .tar file (such as winrar) it would appear as a windows file.

Basically on your machine right now windows is telling you that you dont have the application needed to open/run the file. What is the extension of the file?

Also, if you choose a program and it does not work, and you want to pick another program:

Hold down the shift key -> right click on the file -> select "open with" and it will reopen the "open with" window. However, that still will not do you any good without the neccessary app.

(post the file extension that way someone might know what application you DO need to open that file.)

Thanks for the quick reply. The two extensions are .bin and .cor.

Hiya

When you choose the Open with, ensure that the box Always open these type of programs with..., is unchecked.

I can open .bin with Wordpad. I don't have any .cor, but this is a Corel file. have you got any software by them? You may try Wordpad again.

Regards
