I recently purchased an HP Pavilion laptop computer and have to admit I am somewhat behind in the new technology since my previous desktop computer is now 9 years old.

What is the difference of a USB Type-C Port/thumb drive other than the connection size?

My laptop has two regular USB ports so what is the purpose of the USB Type-C?

Should I purchase a USB Type-C thumb drive and if so why?

Some newer cell phones use a USB-C connector.

USB Type C can transform data much faster than its earlier versions. You can read about its technical preferences from above given source.

You can connect different devices with USB-C. I connect an external monitor with adapter. Very cool technology! (y)

My newest android tablet uses a micro USB-C. The advantage: I don't have to turn on a light, grab a pair of reading glasses and be doubly sure I'm inserting the cable into my tablet in the proper orientation! It is so much easier to put the charging cable in without worrying if I'm inserting it wrong.
