I have avg and Stopzilla loaded on my computer and scan it every day. I had to take it into the shop as it had a virus these programs couldn't seem to find or fix. What is the best software to use?

I use Microsoft Security Essentials: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials
    (as my antivirus)

Along with MalwareBytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and Spyware Blaster: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
    (as antispyware)

There are some other free programs out there, such as Superantispyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/
    (antispyware)

Other antivirus programs to consider are Avast: http://www.avast.com/en-us/index or Avira: http://www.avira.com/

    3 that Cheeseball81 mentioned:

    Microsoft Security Essentials

    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

    SUPERAntiSpyware

are all that I install and use in my 4 computers. They're free and very user-friendly and do a good job and are well-recommended here.

There's no need to do a scan with AVG every day. Once a week is sufficient.

One thing about the newer versions of AVG that I want to caution you about. Do not use its optional file and registry cleaning feature. Besides being dangerous to use, using it directs you to a "PC Checkup" program that AVG encourages you to buy.
