Hi, i'm about to buy a new processor. What would be the better choice P4 530 or P4 530J? I've heard that the 530J is better, but onthe site it is cheaper.
Any help would be great.
thanks

The only difference is that the 530J supports the 'Disable Execute Bit' that can be useful to prevent malicious code from executing at the processor level. I would go the cheaper, but to be really honest I'd go for an AMD 64 bit system.

You do realize that these are socket 775 processors and are probably not compatible with your old mainboard.

A quote from another forum "a J chip guarantees a newer stepping.

Js can run a little cooler than non Js" For the better cooling I would get a J if the cost was not that much greater.
