Hey guys...was hoping to bounce something off of yous.

Me and my sisters and brother are planning a surprise birthday party for my mom's 60th birthday in May. Its gonna be a good-sized party (about 200 people or so...hopefully no more than that!) We are doing ok for ideas but there is one that has us stumped.

My brother wants to play guitar while we all sing her a song......we love the idea but no one has a clue what to sing. She loves to laugh and she is also very sentimental so it doesnt matter what kind of song it is. She will love it either way.

What can we sing to her? Any ideas? What would you sing to your mom?

I am gonna guess that Black Sabbith, Led Zeppelin and Metalica are OUT.....so..... :D

Just kidding with ya Valley.... :) :)

Seriously...tell us something about her. The song should be something that agrees with her. Is there some activities that she always liked? A particular singer or musical group? A particular genre?

Some songs lend themselves to a group sing...others don't go as well....

yep...I was thinking more along the lines of Pink Floyd, though. ;)

she likes country...she likes line-dancing music (yeah...we are country hicks!). She also likes some soft rock and pop. She loves Patsy Cline and groan Elvis but nothing there can really be sung in a group-type way.

yes, I know....We could do "we are family" but that one has been done so many times it is really stale. There will be 5 of us singing together.

That's what we sang on my Mom's 70th Birthday.

I know it's a "love" song, but it says all a person wants to say to their Mom without being "forward" or "smarmy."

    "You're once, twice-Three Time's a Lady,
    And I love-uv-uv you."

    "To see you,
    to hear you,
    to touch you,
    to be near you,
With every beat of my heart-art-art,"
    ...or something like that.

It's easy to sing and everybody cried, even us rough-necks.

    Valley,

You mention soft and pop rock....

I have always been a fan of Stevie Knicks and Fleetwood Mac. Anything along those lines fit?

    ***off topic***

oh and Maxx......Ma's not a Fleetwood Mac fan but if you are....and you swing towards country once in awhile, try listening to the Dixie Chicks. Their lead singer sounds just like Stevie Nicks and kinda looks like her too. There is a song called "Landslide" ..when I first heard it, I would have bet my life that it was Stevie Nicks.

They have another touching song out right now called "Travellin' Soldier" that is a big hit too.
